A sad day, but @DELO72 confirmed it for me. Due to skyrocketing component costs, OSRAM has had to discontinue the FLx series. Our condolences to the Entertainment Lighting team over as OSRAM. It was an excellent fixture and will be missed.

Considering how popular this fixture was, I do wonder why someone else hasn't come out with something like it. I seem to remember that Altman has a similar worklight fixture.

Sadly, no ballast replacements are possible. The fixture was built as a single unit, IP65 and sealed, and so we never brought in any spare components. If it failed under warranty you got a new fixture. There was no possibility to fix it. NOW-- the improved 2nd generation series I had gotten 95% completed before the entire program was killed (against my wishes) by upper management... well that had replaceable drivers and many other awesome upgrades. (sigh....*sobs*). A few of us have considered going rogue and leaving the company and making a family of them ourselves, but without warehouse space, some cash reserves, a business entity, etc. , it just seemed like too many hurdles. If someone could make a version (a GOOD version) over here, they'd save the 25-20% Chinese tariffs and the cost may be similar to outsourcing them. I honestly don't know why no one has done them in the meantime. It's not like it is hard. It's a freakin' Work light. *laugh* Maybe it's just not sexy enough without the color changing, DMX control, etc. to be of interest. ?? I hear rumors that one company has one in the works. If it's good I'll let people know about it. Still breaks my heart that we had to cancel that program.

I see an opportunity for Apollo...

Ouch. I'd long forgotten about that clip light. Brilliant idea but not for $75.

Work lights probably are a little different market: it's a one-trick pony that doesn't copy an existing consumer or mass commercial product (that we've found so far). That's also why the designs so far have been expensive, relatively speaking. I kicked around the idea of developing a work light for theaters and determined it wasn't a project for a guy looking to retire soon.

I bought a four pack when they were closing them out.

I wish ETC would maybe pick it up. We purchased 24 or something, it's a really terrific fixture worthy of somebodies (not Altmans) attention.

Perhaps the fine folks at ARRI would be interested. :think:We had Clay Paky out for a demo right after it happened and they were pretty excited.

Says 4 for 75.00,no? So no ugly tape for the gel but, the standard models are sold in every hardware store for 12.00.

So I have some of the 90 watt fixtures which are dead and I assume it is the ballast that has failed.

The fixture was built as a single unit, IP65 and sealed, and so we never brought in any spare components.
I take it from this statement that removing the back cover voids any moisture rating. The alternative is to just toss it out. The back cover removes from the fixture fairly easily and a rubber gasket provides the seal.

Sadly, no ballast replacements are possible.
I searched for a replacement ballast with similar specs and found something on Amazon. It is smaller than the original ballast and has a broader input voltage range. The original ballast mentions AC triac dimming and I assume the new one is only rated for constant input power. I am not sure how dimming would work with a constant current power supply anyhow. The new ballast has the same IP65 rating as the original.

I removed the ballast mounting plate and drilled two holes in it to secure the new ballast. It gets quite warm while operating. I am still burning it in. I will report back with any findings.

There is someone on ebay selling used 60 watt versions with a new ballast for $299. Seems kinda pricey but if you really want that color temp and frame, so it goes.
