Lightning help?

Hello all,
So here is our situation. For a storm effect we are using a strobe effect in led lights in our own space, however, we have a high school drama festival and our site just doesn't have the new infrastructure. So my question is:

Using old school non-led source fours and an eos board. How would you pull off a strobing esque lightning effect?

Thanks
Joe

If you want to get fancy and have it look semi random.. I have also used multiple effects with frequencies that are different enough on the same fixture to produce a "random"
appearing set of flashes. Probably do more of my lighning by hand, and the multi effect is really cool for flickering candles, gaslights, and the light of a flame on the wall.

@jgels Consider using three or four ellipsoidals. Top fixture to initiate each lightning bolt with one of the remainder continuing it down for the strike. Use the top fixture every time with a different tail added for variety / movement. Pre heating all of them will minimize their reaction time as well as lengthen their live.

Be sure to use L201/L202 in your Lightening Lekos. But I'd use a strobe cap, even if I had LEDs available.

Ok. Considering they aren't really my lights and there will be 2 more shows after mine, I will probably try and avoid anything that would potentially burn out bulbs. Especially since I would need to also do the rest of my own show after.

We always used to use 500W "photoflood" or "photolux" lamps in flood fixtures. These were very bright for their rating, and had a very fast response but didn't last long, but, as @JonCarter says, relamp and repeat.
