Chauvet Q-Spot 560 LED Not Working

Hello,

Has anyone had the issue of their Chauvet Q-Spot 560 LED suddenly not moving correctly or turning the lamp on/off. At our tech rehearsal yesterday the fixture was fine, then today it is not working. It is not responding to any commands and does not do the full warm-up "dance" either. When it gets powered on, it will move about 20 degrees then stay in that place and click a bit. It is also not turning the lamp on/off when requested, so it is more than a movement issue. Any help is appreciated. We have only 2 more rehearsals until we have an audience.

Many thanks.

Update - During tonight's tech rehearsal, the unit is responding to intensity and color commands, however it still not moving.

Is it giving you any error codes? Can you easily move the fixture head manually when it's powered off? Does it have a pan or tilt lock that engaged itself? If there's nothing obvious on the outside I would just open it up and at least take a look, it could be beyond your skill set to fix, or might be something really easy like something catching on a loose screw.

Thank you for your reply. New update - halfway during Act II the instrument decided to fully function and is now working as expected. Any thoughts on what could cause the sudden loss and then sudden come back?

Update - Part way through Act II it started working as it should, however, by the end of Act II it was once again not moving, and after rehearsal when we were looking with it, it also stopped turning the lamp on/off.

What did Chauvet say when you called them?

Heather,
Yes, that fixture is pretty old. We don't stock parts for them anymore, however, I am not convinced that this is a parts issue. Typically, lights break and stay that way. I think you might have a bad DMX cable somewhere in the line. I would suggest trying to swap out the cable leading into the fixture. There could also be a loose connector inside the fixture causing features to not work, then work again. Is this light at the end of the chain, or in the middle of the chain?

Not to be captain obvious... but intemittant failure.. did you replace the dmx cable segment feeding it?
Thanks all for your responses. In taking the unit apart we found that one of the fans was not functioning. Obviously not a long term solution (more a get-us-through-tonight solution) but unplugging the non-working fan resulted in the rest of the unit functioning exactly as intended. We have rush ordered a new fan to replace asap. Cheers.

You aren't doing shrek perchance? "Have you seen the muffin fan?" "The muffin fan?" "The muffin fan!"
