FOLO: Using an LS9-32 as a stagebox

Pursuant to my other question about renting an X32, it looks like what we're *going* to do is use our backup LS9 as a submixer for the band, stuffed off stage in our scene shop. While I was uncasing it to power it up for test... I noticed it also has the Dante cards in it.

What I'd *like* to do, then, is loop the Analog 1-32 inputs on the B console back to its Dante Outs 1-32, and pull them into the A console's 33-64 channels. And then take the first 16 returns into the B console, and feed at least some of them from my 16 Aux mixes on the A board.

I can see how to do every part of that except the Direct Out hairpin on the B console. Anyone here enough of a Moto-head to suggest an approach?

Looking more closely, it may be that this is the default -- our A board is set to crossdeck the inputs to Protools over Dante, and there they are in the OUTPORTS page, "Direct Ch1".

I can't see how you set them yet...

Found it. You can't do it from the iPad (though it will show you), you have to do it on the Direct menu on the main screen UI (which has that horrid 8-ch design).

Ok, figured this one out myself; sorry for the noise, folks. :)

Glad to see you got the routing worked out. It's been a while since I did direct out patching on an LS9 (via ADAT cards), but was going to offer to help anyway.

When this show is over I'd recommend pulling the Dante card from the spare LS9 and keeping it handy. One nice feature of the Yamaha family is the MY cards work in everything short of the Rivage series (they may also work there, but I've never had my hands on one), so if you needed to rent a desk in the future you could save the cost of renting the card as well. Also, since Dante products are worth their weight in gold these days, you could probably sell it in a heartbeat.

Just about every digital console lets you patch direct outs straight to the output card for exactly this. You don't hold pre-amp control.... but it'll totally work.

You pin the one thing I'm not sure about yet. I know Dante carries head amp control information, and I suspect that the ls9 will generate it on the A console, I'm just not sure if the B console will listen to it.

[ FWIW: for those who've never run into it before, "doubts" is a broken German-English idiomatic translation for "questions" or "queries"; I think they should pick something else, since they generally don't mean to be as judgemental as "doubts" sounds (and since it almost always confuses the English speakers whom it doesn't offend), but the European English Language Institute doesn't care what I think. ;-) ]

The QL and CL consoles share HA control, using the "control-channel" in the Dante stream to communicate.
They are however using a Yamaha specific protocol.

They have Shure ULXD control build into their protocol as well, and if I remember correct they soon get Sennheiser EW-D + 6000 control as well.

The Rivage does indeed support the MY AUD cards, just like they support the MY ADAT cards.
I have used both in a Rivage PM3 with no problem at all (just remember to set saplerate tp 48K on the ADAT if you need all 8 in/out ;) )

And I finally got done wasting the whole week being sick before tomorrow's sitzprobe... and I can't get the Dante link to work reliably from B to A. Controller sees it, cross-connects are ok, and I know that because I got, like, 5 seconds of audio through it. Twice. But that's all.

Everyone's at 48K, Mic B1 -> Direct -> B Slot 1-1 -> Dante Controller -> A Slot 1-1 -> Ch A1 -> LR

I have SM talking to the B console, and I can see the incoming audio on the meters. It just doesn't make it upstairs... Any thoughts, friends?
