Control/Dimming Christmas tree candles

I have not. It would be interesting to know if the remote was IR or RF. I' mean, one could reasonably build /use an IR or RF repeater to boost the signal and get it to the stage. I am not a big fan of giving control of something like that to a hand on stage.

I guess if it is IR one of the "tv remote repeater" IR extenders might work. We use them to turn projectors off and on from the booth.

What might be more interesting would be to build a dmx interface for the remote ...

I was thinking that as well but, sometimes I tend to overcomplicate things. (can you believe it?) Would be relatively easy use a DMX relay kit, they are cheap. set The the channel as a momentary or a "bump button". Tie the relay to the on/off contacts in the remote and mount the whole thing in line of sight. It would work for either version.

If I buy two sets, I could try to open up one of the controllers to add pig-tails for a relay. Good idea! They look pretty sealed, unfortunately.

That's what dremels are for... ;)

As promised, here's what I did to control the candles. #1 shows the controller - optical, unfortunately. #2 shows the cover removal. I cut around one of the buttons because I didn't know better, then saw that it was just a sticky cover with conductive paint. #3 shows where I found the board feedthroughs to solder to. #4 shows the board back in place so the battery can still be used. The wires were run to the wireless DMX relay setup. A couple bump buttons on the lighting program, one for on, one for off.
Since there is just that little led at the end and the candles are on a 5' tree, I used several "remote control extenders" to get the infrared around in the tree. But the candles light on cue!
