Does anybody know how I might get ahold of a "piano board" style resistance dimmer setup, or a "six-pack" autotransformer console?

The title says it all. I'm not entirely sure what I would do with one, or where exactly I would put the thing. I know I want one though, just fascinating and impractical enough for me to want to endlessly tinker with it. After looking at the usual online retailers for a few years, I seem to have struck out. I've been needing a new restoration project.

Man.... I saw one on a renovation job that came through here not too long ago.... Let me see if they've demoed it yet. It was in a school it was in a school out in BF Oregon somewhere; it controlled all their border/strips. the system had been upgraded in the 60 to an Ariel Davis Huge-o-matic thing.

@Gage , besides the scarcity, your biggest problem is going to be affording the shipping. These things always weigh a ton! Steve Short at Lite-Trol probably has some things you could be interested in, but he's on the other side of the country. And, I suspect, he's more interested in helping someone with an old system keep things running, rather than help someone for a conversation piece.

As @Van hinted, installers of new equipment are likely the ones ripping out the old stuff, so make friend with those companies/people.

There are likely many Luxtrol six-pack autotransformer dimmers out there. https://www.controlbooth.com/threads/luxtrol-does-anyone-know-what-i-have.46398/

Yeah, that's my main concern. I have no problem traveling for it, but steve is a little far for a weekend road trip. This is most likely going to be a "right place right time" sort of thing. I don't really have any connections with companies or people that are pulling stuff that old, at least not locally, but it's something I've been trying to work on.

While it would be a conversation piece, my main goal would still be restoration and/or preservation. I enjoy having things in my collection that function, and usually do everything in my power to make that happen.

I've been trying to gather a lot of older "theatrical oddities", but as of right now, some sort of resistance/autotransformer dimmer setup is the be-all-end-all.

I was thinking about trying to get in contact with the user that started this thread, but it appears he hasn't been online for a few years at this point.

Piano Board resistance dimmers (12 or 14 plates) contain large amounts of asbestos wiring.
I figured as such. I've worked with the stuff before, although not on quite as large of a scale. As always, ill be taking proper precautions, and working with more experienced people if I come across anything I'm unsure of.
