How would you repair this WL93 lav?

This things have lasted a long time and been great for our musical theater program. This one lost some outside insulation but still works. I was going to try and clean the oxidation off with alchohol and then patch it somehow. I don't like tape as it inevitably comes off. I have a Hellerman tool and sleeves. Your thoughts?

$64.00 to have Shure "repair" it.... by tossing it in the bin and sending you a new unit.

well that's a tricky one. The shield looks rather oxidized. Best case, you could pull off the other end and slip some not-going-to-match heat shrink over. Or use Shure's flat-rate repair service....which will just be a discounted swap.
I'll take a look at removing the plug. Those wires are awfully small and my fingers aren't. LOL Thanks all.
