Any Idea What this Is?

Hi Everyone, I'm attaching a picture of an item that is hanging from a wire in the middle of our theater. I started working here about 4 years ago, but haven't had a chance to fully understand what this item is as it's out of reach from our catwalks and most of the time I've just ignored it.

I always believed it was a hanging type of mic to capture the room audio (that no longer worked), as it's right over the middle of the audience and fairly high up out of visible range when sitting. But when I zoomed in on it from our catwalk, it doesn't quite look like a microphone to me.

So I decided to come on here and see if anybody has any ideas to identify what it is a what it is for.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Looks to me like a screw mount for a camera or mic that’s no longer threaded in place. Follow the signal cable back (right side of your pix) and see what connector and where it goes!

Thanks. I believe it could be that as well. Upon further inspection, there is a hole at the bottom which would make sense for placing a mic to capture audience sound. Hopefully later this week or next, I can work at lowering it and seeing what's up.
