Behringer X32 Producer Assistance

Any day a Behringer X32 Producer is going to land on my desk and I'm expected to have it up and running pdq!
I'm hoping there is a X32 experienced operator somewhere in/near Highlands County Florida I could talk to.

What are your questions, Robert? I'm not a Certified Guru but I've mixed with these for a few years now.

Thank you for your reply. I was hoping to have found someone within 50 miles or so I could visit to see in real life how to Route this thing. Always a tricky subject for a newbie to digital boards I'm told.
My number one concern is what I can expect taking it out of the box! The church has 8 mics and the manual says they are already routed to the left panel of faders, layer 1-8. True? Then I was planning to plug the main PA amp into the Analog XLR Outs (7+8) and floor monitors using 1-6. Question: On the right panel which layer would I need to press, DCA or Mix Bus Master? Are these already routed to the XLR Analogs out or do I have to Route something? I.E I'm looking for the simplest/quickest way to get mics through faders and out to Main PA and floor monitors. We also send audio to two laptops for live streaming and a public assisted hearing wireless transmitter box. But these can wait.

The default, OOTB is left/right on XLR 7 & 8, and your mixes 1-6 are on XLR 1-6.

Download the X32 Edit software from the Behringer site and play with it. You'll find enough to really confuse yourself (trust me on this!), but it's a big help. It's also easier to make a number of changes than using the console front panel. Free, for Win/Mac/Lin.

It sounds to me like you'll be out of outputs very quickly. There are ways to address some of this onboard, we'll burn that bridge later.

Thanks. I have downloaded the X32 Edit software and you are right its doesnt semm to me at this time ot foloe the TFT displays. BUt Ill work on it.
Although we use 6 monitors they ar at the moment 'Daisy' chained from one AUX out fed Amp! If they wanted to set individualmoniotr leves the will have to buy more amps.
I was alittle concered about the running out of outputs comments. Can you explain that a little more.
Current outputs: Main for front of house amp/speakers. 1 Aux for rear of house amp/speakers. They then feed two laptop computers and a assisted listening Wireless Tx for public headsets.
There are 9 wirleess mic Rxs. 1 CD player and a tapes out to where I dont know yet!

a quick look at the manual says you will have 16 in and 8 out. So that covers your 9 mic in and your current setup of outs (LR and 1 Aux plus sends for live stream and hearing aid loop) There is also an X card in there that will allow 32tracks of audio to be sent to a computer. This will be done in the IO patching ( I have done it before on a midas x32)
DCA's can be assigned to channels and are the new version of VCA- There is no processing available only levels. a DCA can control the level of several channels such as all vocals or all drums.
As far as monitors go it is often easier to buy a powered monitor. this will give you flexibility of placement as you only need power and a XLR.
As suggested look at the software and watch videos on youtube. And of course when you have questions come back and ask.
The sends on faders button is used to send a signal to an aux bus. Select the bus and then press sends on fader. This will show you all the channels being sent to the aux. Adjust each channel fader to the desired level and then remember to press sends on fader button to get back to the channel control surface.
Play play play is the best method for me to learn new toys.
I wish you well. Keep us inthe loop.
Regards
Geoff

It was based on your comment about 6 monitors, which in my world, would be 6 mixes and 6 outputs. My comment is moot in light of use case. The external gear using RCA connectors can go to the "AUX" inputs and outputs, presuming you don't have a long cable run to the devices. You can "re-map" those physical inputs and outputs to other channels and "user outputs" respectively. It's confusing on the mixer but "cribbage board" simple in X32 Edit.

Great. Lots of good stuff. I'll only get to 'Play' with the real unit if the Church I'm helping lets me bring it back to our theater for a few days. With our own theaters audio and lighting equipment y I had plenty of time to play. So my knowledge will depend on the Edit program and videos. Another reason I was hoping someone from some town in central FL would see these posts and say 'come on over'!

But one question pops up straight away: The X Card! if it sends out 32 channels of audio what would I need to separate a particular pair ro give me the usual coax. bnc to plug into the computer?

Luckily it's simplified in that they use use several monitors BUT daisy chain them! I.E. use only one output! Something I would like to change one day but not a priority now.

The XLive card has a USB port that goes to the computer. Download and install the drivers on the computer and the X32 appears as a 32 channel sound card. The card channels are routable so you can choose any input/output.

As mentioned the X card is USB so you can send out 32 ch to a DAW or send the DAW to the console.

Do a search in youtube for Ascension Worship Tech Tuesday. He does a nice job of walking through the X32 and it is HOW focused! Another good one on youtube is DrewBrashler

Cribbage board simple is a great explanation of the routing!

Start with the basics. Make an input lists of who / what , where do you want it to go (mains,mons,broadcast/stream mix), how to you want to group it, etc....All kinds of resources out there for the X32. I like to do one for every Sunday - especially to update who my soloists are.

I have several Power Gen clients near you, unfortunately, I wont be back down there until June or so.

If they haven't ordered it yet, you might want to suggest to them to buy an X32 Compact, instead of the Producer, for 10% more money. The addition of scribble strips and more physical controls makes the Compact a much better mixer to work with, especially if you work with more than 8 inputs. The Producer is mainly designed to fit in a 19" rack.
