Hi guys, I'd love some wizard feedback on 5R/7R lamps and ballasts. Normally, I purchase lamps and ballasts together and the 5R and 7R ballasts are normally identical but I know that the 5R lamp outputs 190W and the 7R, 230W. This wattage and the lamp terminal layout is the only difference. Are they indeed interchangeable? I would also assume there would be the issue of adequate cooling in the units for the additional 40W or is this a non-issue? I've also had issues with new lamps sometimes not striking with old ballasts and vice versa. Any reason for this to occur? The units having these issues are Elation Platinum 5R Spots, Elation 5R Beam Extremes and Chinese BEAM230 7R units. Would the best solution be to change both lamp and ballast every time a lamp change is called for or if a ballast fails?
