70V on the Neutral, how are these Edison's wired anyway?

Check the Leviton site for an actual diagram: http://www.leviton.com/sections/techsupp/diagrams7.htm

Standard hookup is as follows:
Hot and Neutral come in on black and white wires,
White wire goes straight up to fixture, hot goes on common of first switch.
3 wire in between switch locations w/ Black & Red on jump terminals.
At far end, Black and Red are also on jump terminals,
White goes on common which returns to the beginning and is bugged to the hot wire going up to the fixture.

Now here's the way my buddy did it:http://www.bnbsound.com/images/3way.jpg
Hot and Neutral come in on the left.
Hot goes on the common, Red and Black jumps are the same at both ends.
White wire that's on the common (bringing the hot back to the beginning, has two light fixtures wired in series on it.
I'm pretty sure that's how he did it, although actually, the fixtures would still work on either of the jump conductors because they are alternately hot each time either switch is thrown.

That thing I said about the test light was almost certainly becuase it was a neon lamp. Probably having to do with the fact that it functions on excited neon atoms and not a glowing filament. I'll have to dig out that tester and give it a try tomorrow.
