911 Tribute lights

Ran across an article on these, but it was short on details. I have never had the chance to check these out in person, but it apparently consists of 88 seven kw xenon fixtures, 616Kwh total. I am curious if anyone knows what type of fixtures are being used. Since they are only there once a year, I must assume someone is supplying them. In any case, here is the article: 911 Lights
I was surprised there wasn't already a thread about these, but maybe I just didn't use the right phrasing.

The fixtures are Leukos by an Italian company, Space Cannon.

Thank you for the info!

Thanks for posting that @MNicolai . It makes me proud of our industry to have brothers and sisters helping the country remember and heal with this beautiful art.

Around the turn of the century a company named LightAmerica gained much fame lighting this and many sports domes, Olympics, etc. It always struck me as ironic that a company named LightAmerica was using Italian-made Space Cannons, rather than say, viable fixtures from Xenotech or Syncro-Lite. One day LightAmerica just disappeared; I think they went bankrupt.

I had the pleasure of working with he designer, Paul Marantz. I worked as his chief electrician on designs he did at Oberlin College and Karamu Theatre in Cleveland in the 1960s. (This was long before Fischer-Marantz-Stone.) Great guy to work with.

A few more pictures and the corresponding post about Cosmo from Craig Caserta

"These are some views of the 911 lights most will never get to see. Just an idea of how big each individual one is. I’m honored to call
Cosmo Wilson
a friend. He is normally lighting the likes of AC/DC, Aerosmith, Judas Priest and other bands. When the tribute was going to be cancelled Cosmo made it his mission to make it happen. Thank you Cosmo you are without a doubt one of the coolest people I know."

Tunnels To Towers foundation funded the project after the state abandoned it.
I bid on the transportation of equipment before the state took that over.

Actually if I remember right after the outcry the state added "covid" support money, since the excuse was that Covid procedures were making it impossible to hold the event. Mike Bloomberg is the board chair of the 9/11 memorial and I wouldn't be surprised if he kicked in as well.

After threatening to hold a competing display in NYC Tunnels to Towers took their display out to Shanksville.

The 9/11 memorial/museum really botched the handling of the whole thing but I'm glad it was successful in the end.

I've been up at the base a few times:
