A historical question: "Leicas and Fresnels" ?

The question was what were they called, not what did the manufacturer name them. And it was strictly a humorous response.

Lots of (older) people still call them Lekos, just like many say Kleenix, and not tissue, or Masonite, not hardboard.

And some say "Crescent Wrench" when it might really be a Craftsman or Stanley adjustable wrench.

Back to the original question, some Leica cameras have fresnel lenses. Maybe your mystery phrase was referring to cameras and not stage lights.

No reference in Leca for my files in fixtures or books.

Not until '92, when they were released. Electro-Contol's late, unlamented Parellipsphere was the intermediate step; a good idea poorly executed in manufacture.

My understanding was fresnels are often used internally for the rangefinder and in some SLRs (focus screen) and in the waist level focus finders of some TLRs (not specifically Leicas) - I was wondering if you'd found they were used for the taking lens. But we're straying off topic here.

The fresnel lenses on Leicas were part of the rangefinder system, not the actual picture-taking optics.
