Barn Door

A lighting accessory made up of two or four blades that attaches to the front of a lighting instrument. Each blade is independantly adjustable, and the barn door can be rotated. Barn doors are used to control spill and shape the light coming from the instrument.

Used primarily on Fresnel lighting instruments both in theatre and film. They also find use on PARs and several types of open face fixtures. Their effectiveness on PAR instruments is debatable as some have found them to act more as a douser than the intended purpose of a beam shaping device. Barn doors are analagous to shutters in ERS's (or Lekos).
