1. The bottom part of a lamp that fits into the socket and conducts electricity to the filament. Common stage types include E-26/27 (medium screwbase), G9.5 (TP-22/220, GLA family), and P28s (medium prefocus). A socket is often incorrectly called a base.

2. The lower, supporting portion of anything.

3. Opposite of acidic, or alkali.
