belaying pin

    usually a wooden pin, although they can also be made of steel, which fits though holes on the Pin Rail around which ropes can be wound to "tie - off" a load. Originating on Sailing ships Belaying pins are still used today in many houses especially those with traditional Hemp rigging systems.
