The bobby pin (not to be confused with the hair pin) is a small metal hair fastener with one straight side and one bent side. It is used to inconspicuously secure hair in a desired style. Bobby pins are strongest/ can hold up the most hair when placed in X shapes. The greatest problem with bobby pins is their tendency to reflect the lights and appear shiny on stage, thus defying the point of being inconspicuous. So be very careful with their placement. Also, be sure to throw them away if they lose their end protectors as the bare metal will break the performer's hair and scrape their scalp!
