If looking at the writing printed/embossed on a multi-conductor cable, as though it were a sentence, the capital end is on the left. This becomes particularly important when attaching a connector, so that one doesn't have to cross all the wires in order to get them to the proper terminals. Most, but not all, multi-pin connectors require the Capital End of the cable on the Male Connector, and the Female Connector on the Period End.

CAPITAL END--Manufacturer Part Numbers Type AWG Number of Conductors Voltage Temperature Rating Listings Other Information--PERIOD END
