I'm interested in learning more about CAD Software, Does anyone know where I can find a guide, PDF file or video on using CAD? I would like to add it as a skill. I'm good with computers and pick up on programs very fast. Also how often would you say you use CAD in lighting? Do you use VectorWorks spotlight?

Propaganda movies....

Short answer you use it constantly. I use VW but there are those who use WYSIWYG, AutoCad and other programs. As a LD VW is pretty standard.

In Vegas look into this college class
THTR 406 001 70973 CAD FOR THE THEATRE 3 TR 08:30 AM-09:45 AM GRA 246 ALDRIDGE (Offered in the spring at UNLV)

CCSN might offer one as well though I don't know.

You can vectorworks for free as a student http://www.nemetschek.net/student/index.php . Follow these guides http://instruct1.cit.cornell.edu/courses/thetr263/index.html and you will be able to get it to work, cough up the cash for the pro learning series and you will be an indeterminate user. The PLS is a rather basic way to learn, watch the video and follow the bouncing ball but it exposes you to tools and methods which are not obvious by following the other guides.

Once your comfortable modeling in 3D the next step is vectorscripting but I have not found a good way to learn that except reverse engineering other ones and trial and error.

Very helpful! I will look into the theater class and the guides.
