I have used them a bit. I am happy to try and answer any questions you might have. I am certainly not a resident expert on them, but am comfortable using them.

Is it an analogue desk or a digital desk?

It's definitely analog and capable of a metric assload of automation.

Technically a digital desk because of the automation, but a VERY analogue feel. No internal dynamics or effects like the Yamaha desks.

No, it is classified as an analogue console with automation.

Cadac has one digital console that we will probably never see a production model of.

ya, I guess you are right, by their definition. The point is the desk has great automation, no recallable head amps, dynamics, or effects.

Pretty much a great analog desk with automation. Manuals if you don't know where to start.

A theater I worked at for years ran all Cadac-J type desks. 40+ wireless, 60+ piece orchestra.

    Smooth sailing and sounds fantastic.

Download the manuals and SAM. I'm still trying to get the hang of the latter though. And beware, one of the great things about the J-type is it's flexibility, so find out what modules you'll be using. Other than that, they're fantastic desks; even the older ones.

    cadac console information, please

It looks like we are going to get several Cadac F series consoles (used - not sure of age) sometime around end of the year. I come from a rental / corporate AV background and am not very familiar with this manufacture. It looks like they are big in the EU and in theatre. I also see that they had a little financial hiccup back in the spring of this year. What is the consensus regarding these consoles, i.e. compared to Midas or high end Yamaha series desks and what is going on in terms of their financial health. Any info you may have would be appreciated and thank you in advance for your help in this matter.

    Re: cadac console information, please

From my expirence, if they are well maintained, they will be great boards for you. A desk like the Midas Heritage has a better sound in my opinion, but this is like comparing a Cadlilac to a Lincoln, both are great in their own ways. The Yamaha boards like the PM5D, LS9, and M7CL have a lot more going for them with the built in effects and dynamics. However, if you have the outboard processing already, that really helps to narrow the gap in features.

I have not followed it very closely, but I do believe their corporate economic healty still leaves much to be desired.
