"Cheaper to Just Buy It"

I love tackling this personal projects. It gives me an excuse to buy tools.

This. If the material+tool costs for a project come out ahead of what it takes to pay someone else to do it, then the tools are basically free. Then, next time the math is even more favorable because you already have some/most/all of the tools.

and some experience under your belt...

I recently had to make 12 large letters for an event. the cost to hire them was about the same as the cost to make. So I got paid for 3 days to make the letters and we now have them for next year when we hold the event again. Some times the long term goal is not seen and sometimes it is cheaper and better to buy over make. Horses for courses.
