Choral risers as music critics?

Great lesson on the difference between relatively stable weight. (Choir standing) and weight in motion. (Choralography)

Most choral risers are not designed for sideways motion. That's a lot of weight distributed side to side and the end result could have been much more serious. Many of the portable risers have a locking mechanism that is not really locking. It's a squeeze bar that "locks" into notches of the frame as they are unfolded and set up. Age of the risers and enough sideways force can cause the "lock" to slip out of the notched frame and collapse. They also require someone who knows how to set them up properly to even engage the lock.

As a choral director for 20+ years, I've seen this happen on too many occasions to think its a rare occurence.
