I don’t need a separate universe, but I need some kind of Dmx output backstage, and my initial thought was that the outputs were only outputting universe 2, which was why I was using the second universe. Using the first universe would also work.
You have DMX addresses in U1 available above the highest dimmer number. If it's a 96 rack, you've got 416 addresses to use for added gear. If an LEDPar uses 5 or so, that's 80 Pars alone.
Unless there is already an adapter split to two universe outs on the back of the board, i really doubt thats the case. Is that a common install practice? Cuz ive never seen it.
Anyway, so the problem is the outputs onstage dont seem to make their way back to the board.. bad opto splitter?
Best bet would be to continue the dmx data daisychain off of the dimmer racks- as they have a known good signal path.
