Daylight effect for a hot sun baked day

Our group is putting on a WWI play set on the slopes of Gallipoli, and I am looking at the lighting and I was wondering what approaches people might us. I am considering for the main daylight acts to just use a tungsten to daylight colour correction on one of the lights with a light amber in the shadows (The harsh white light reflected off the group). Mainly because of my memory of standing in hot temps near the turkish coast was of a very hard blue/white light. A suggested approach of using a light amber as the main warm light to represent a warm sunny day does not seem right in my head as I would like the light to be harsh, rather than a nice sunny day.

Sitting in a room with the rain coming down past the window is not helping the thought pattern much.

Any suggestions or does this look like completely the wrong approach

Many thanks

Dave
