The adapter is fine. Just needed to update my OS.
Qlab support did say its important to make sure you have an adapter that can carry enough power for your node.

I'll leave this if anyone has a issue similar in future.

I love my DMXking Micro
I love my Qlab.
I recently purchased a new mac, and of course it only has USBc outs.
I have had no success getting the DMX King micro to play nice using a usbc-usba adapter.

Has anyone else done this - do I just need a better quality/different type adapter or is this a dead end and I need to find a different DMX node?

USB C on the mac is a bit of a cluster... and they've made it worse. Plus, the USB C spec is very strict and unless what you have inside your device is built exactly to spec it won't power up.

I've run into Macs with the Lightning USB C connectors where display output dongles won't work with the non-Lightning ports on the mac. That seems to be a bit of the fussiness of it, but it's not really apparent from the software that there's a difference. Not sure if that would apply here though.
