If you are curious how the structure works for large regional theatres or Broadway, Micheal's post is the most accurate, both in academia and the real world.

If you get involved with smaller things, you could end up doing anything under the sun, that's why its important to have an agreement for what you are responsible before signing a contract.

Please use the search feature, and/or pay attention to the "similar threads" that pop up once a new thread title has been entered, before starting a new thread. There's nothing at all wrong with resurrecting an even ancient old thread (necropost) if you have or need additional information not covered. We'd rather not have a bizillion different threads all on the same/similar topic.
