We all know the classic 3 light outlet tester. Well Lowe’s is offering a neat twist on the classic with a built in voltage meter. Handy thing if you ask me.

Be aware that this device, like all three light testers, cannot detect the most deadly wiring fault of all, the RPBG, reverse polarity, bootleg ground. A simple, non-contact AC tester can detect RPBG. To fully validate the safety of any receptacle, you need two kinds of testers. If I had to pick only one, I'd use the non-contact tester.

John (JR) Roberts - former product manager and design engineer for Peavey Electronics, among his other credits and Mike Sokol (conservatory instructor, musician, SoundHuman) started discussion RPBG back in 2015. The discussion started after a performer was electrocuted on stage in a nonUSA, NonUK country, IIRC.
The Kobalt product appears to be mostly a 3 light tester with a volt meter. Useful, yes. Groundbreaking? No.

Also, interestingly: the price ends in ".98," which is often the sign that the product has been discontinued (very common practice in retail). Could be it's a slow seller or there's a newer version on it's way...
Wouldn't be too hard to hack it into a Gamcheck.
