The temporary measure of increased monitoring of fire hazards when conditions in a facility create a greater possibility of personal or property damage by fire or related hazard, particularly when using pyrotechnic effects. The same term is often used to refer to the individual whose duty it is to monitor conditions of a facility when these effects are in use. Also required in some venues/jurisdictions when welding operations are in progress.

A fire watch condition may also be entered when any atmospheric (fog) effects are used. In this case, the building's fire alarm panel may be temporarily silenced or otherwise bypassed by an authorized person. A fire watch of any type must only be utilized after the facility's management staff, the alarm monitoring company and the local fire department have been notified and approved of such event. Depending on jurisdiction, the fire department may dispatch a fireman or fire marshal to oversee the event in its entirety (highly recommended even if not required).
