A method used to preserve the artistic integrity of a lighting design on a long running show or any time after the LD has departed.
Each light in the rig is individually turned on, and it's focus photographed. Then, later on, it can be refereed to if a unit must be rehung, replaced or just to ensure its original focus remains unchanged.
Especially useful for moving light focuses, where there are far more variables than for a conventional instrument. Often there will be a separate call specifically devoted to photographing moving light presets, and this information is sometimes entered into a database such FocusTrack.
