This article gives a great rundown of the latest standard. Soon we will be able to push 8k at 60 hz, 4:4:4 with HDR all on one cable. Of course, most of us probably won't be able to afford the display, but it sure will look cool!

Of course that cable will be distance limited to only a few metres but that won't stop people wanting to be able to do it in a boardroom or auditorium or...

True, but with the standard, that allows for development of various extenders. Most likely it will use fiber optic. At this point, they are using the same structure cable, so new adapters just will be needed to handle the higher bandwidth.
