    Nothing beat them? I'll take an OM3, OM6, OM7, 767a, 835, 965, Beta 87 (and likely a number of others) over a 58 any time - and a few of these are as or more affordable.

    I agree Timmy, I just found it interesting how much abuse you can put a SM58 through, i was not suggesting they were the best mic out there :p Just that you can beat the daylights out of them and they will still work

    They haven't been the industry standard vocal mics for decades for no reason!

    Everyone uses them because everyone uses them - that's what made them the standard. When no one bucks the trend, the standard never improves.
