I was just reading The NY Times obit, where they list a bunch of shows that were considered mediocre at the time, like Evita, Sweeney Todd and A Funny Thing Happened at the way to the Forum. As Stephen Sondheim said, “When we opened ‘Funny Thing’ in Washington and it got scathing reviews, we played to 50 people in a 1,200-seat auditorium. Almost any other producer would have closed it. Hal was willing to go ahead and take a chance on it. It wasn’t even that he loved the show that much, but once he was there, it was his baby, and he fought for it.”
These are all classics that we likely all worked on. Thank Mr. Prince for his perseverance.
