Microphones Home theatre & karaoke room -avoiding feedback

Hello All:
Newbie alert.....sorry.
I don't know if this is the right forum for this or not, but I've been reading around and it sounds like there is a lot of knowledge around here.
I am not any sort of sound professional, but have been involved in community theatre for years. I have just bought a new home, and would like to set up a home theatre / karaoke room in the basement. I don't know that these two uses pair up so well though. Since the room is only framed in, I have the opportunity (and desire) to install, in-wall, surround sound speakers. I have a THX receiver. This is all great for the home theatre aspect of the room, but am I going to end up with all sorts of feedback issues if I also use the same setup for karaoke; or is there a way to avoid this? My Karaoke system is just a home RSQ NEO 22, and my mics are Sure SM58's.
Please be gentle, as I am only a home consumer who likes a good party. I don't understand things like "gain" and "monitors" (are they the same as speakers?).
Thanks
Ben
