I've always had success with Pie tins or other disposable cookware from the grocery store. Use an exacto knife or mat knife.

I know nothing about lighting, but I know a little about lasers. There are lasers that capable of cutting metal, but they are gigantic & expensive. If you could coat the glass with something opaque & then laser it off, or coat it with something that will darken when a laser hits it, you could make one that way. I know of something you can put on stone & metal to do that, IDK if it works with glass though. Anywhere I could get some appropriate glass to try?
