Is it safe to download Catalina yet (for Mac users)?

Hey all!

So I've seen a string of emails from protools saying "DON'T DOWNLOAD CATALINA because Protools won't work anymore" but it's been radio silence for about a month. I also saw it was a problem with a couple real-time audio engines (FMOD or Wwise, maybe?).

So seems like, across the board, if I want my sound programs to keep working, I shouldn't update my computer. Has anyone heard news that it has been resolved yet and it's safe to upgrade, or has upgraded and it has either been fine or gone horribly wrong?

No, still not safe. Other applications have internal subroutines that are noncompliant, too.

Wasn't Catalina also supposed to end support for 32-bit applications?
Yes, and it does not handle *any* 32 bit code, anywhere in an application. The problem with Pro Tools, for example, is its video rendering engine, still a 32 bit subroutine. I'm told Catalina won't run Ableton Live or earlier versions of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator are the ones I've heard about but suspect the entire Suite has 32 bit code lurking somewhere).

I try to hold off on all major updates, Mac, Windows, Android, iOS. But I hope there's a special place in computer OS hell for Apple.

Edit ps: I do not own an Apple computer and only own an iPad for certain audio apps (Midas Mixtender, mostly). I will use Apple products only when there is no alternative solution. The nearly 10 year old Lenovo ThinkPad I'm writing on now is running Windows 10...
