Hi,
We saw "Jagged Little Pill" at the Broadhurst Theater . We are hoping someone knows how the projections were done on the moving flats/screens. Were they really projected?? Or were they LED screens on the moving flats/screens?
thx

A friend of mine was involved in getting the projections working for that show when it was still in Boston, but I assume it's pretty much the same. Here's what they told me at the time:

We're using a system called blacktrax. It is realtime tracking using IR emitters and 9 motion capture cameras. Each set piece has 6 LEDs in them that blink out a binary identifier. The cameras pick them up and send the coordinates to the media server. In d3 (the media server) we have a 3d object for each of them and have placed each LED on that object so it can calculate the location of the model. Then the projectors are just cameras in the 3d environment. It's active mocap (and a modified system).
