THE POSITION:
Under general direction of the Technical Theater Supervisor, performs skilled and technical duties related to the construction and development of stage sets; performs technical duties related to sound and lighting system operation; performs other job related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Following is a general list of duties for this position. These duties include, but are not limited to:
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Education:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
Experience:
Three years of progressively responsible experience in stage craft, construction of sets, operation of sound and lighting equipment or related area
Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of, or ability to obtain an appropriate, valid California drivers’ license.
WORK SCHEDULE:
This is a part-time specialized technical job classification within the Cultural Arts Division of the City Manager's office. This job requires working a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Following is a general list of duties for this position. These duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with operational activities including set-up, run, and/or strike of shows and events
- Execute scene changes during performances, set hand props, place set pieces, and raise and
lower drops, curtains, or scenery
- Construct stage sets, flats, and properties
- Install rigging, lighting, sound equipment and scenery for theatrical, musical and other events
- Operate stage equipment, lighting and sound systems, digital projection equipment and other
equipment as required
Operate and assist with the maintenance of theater equipment, including follow spots,
microphones, light control board, automated rigging, hand and power tools
- Prepare or modify working plans, drawings and light plots
for specific situations
- Check the stage and production areas for safety hazards
and maintain health and safety standards in these areas
- Perform minor repairs and general maintenance on
stage-related equipment
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
Technical theater production systems, including audio, video, carpentry/rigging and lighting Types and uses of lighting, sound, automated rigging and other stage equipment
Computerized theater equipment, theater movement systems
Electrical theory, sound and lighting effects
Carpentry, painting and other skills required in set construction
Mixing paints and flame retardation of scenery
Occupational hazards and related safety precautions associated with assigned duties
Ability to:
Operate theater equipment including lighting, sound, and automated rigging systems Operate hand and power tools
Construct and paint stage sets
