There is a Mac version of Vectorworks Spotlight (http://www.nemetschek.net/spotlight/index.html) for $1,295 without RenderWorks and $1,645 with RenderWorks. There are student prices too I think around 300-600 bucks.

I am a fan of Vectorworks though most people prefer WYSIWYG thought they do not have a Mac version.

If you truly want to get into computerized light plots, you should just invest the money. What you pay is what you get. If you find some free junk program, it's probably not going to be very useful to you.
