MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface and allows computers, musical instruments and other digital devices to talk to each other. in backstage or technical terms MIDI is used for show control of devices such as cue lights, Lighting and sound cues, more importantly it is how Pyrotechnic devices operate because MIDI uses data validation and automatic checking systems such as pyrotechnic effects can be used via MIDI.

i couldn't find any evidence on Wikipedia of the self validation of data that i mention i only got the information from DVSdave's entry about it in the DMX wikipost.
