I have a moving head its a generic one and the focus doesn't work properly. When I open the light with it off I can move the focus lense up and down without a problem. When the light is on and I try to focus via my dmx controller it just makes funny noises. Do you think the motor is shot?
It doesn't take much to overpower some of the small steppers that go into moving lights. Some million dollar grease on the guide rails might help the situation, but I'd try swapping out the motor if it where me.
