Multimeter?

In my last post mostly everyone said that i should invest in a good multimeter.
now, coming from my sheltered school where we were only allowed to do things one way, i dont know what or how a multimeter works.
i do have a small tiny [crappy] one. and i was looking at it, and trying to figure out how it worked and when to use it.
so...if you guys could help me out on this one, that would be fantastic!

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for or not but I found two sites that give a good explanation on MultiMeters but feel free to ask more questions.

http://www.fluke.com/ should also have something in teaching you by way of book they sell or on-line tutorial even if you don't have one of their brand.

Otherwise if your school has an electronics class, I'm sure the teacher there would know.

I know all the meters I have bought in the past came with instructions. The brand you bought might have something on-line with the same manual or you might be able to get a second copy of them. But on the other hand, learning by way of manual is not much of a way to learn with this piece of equipment. Someone to teach you in person is much better. The Fluke book I hear is really good on the other hand.

I have a Fluke 111 series DMM sitting here which is not their bottom of the line, but, certainly not top of the line multimeter. It has all teh basics on it. The manual is decent enough, http://assets.fluke.com/manuals/11x_____umeng0200.pdf - the various symbols on the thing are pretty standard and they're all explained in teh guid book. You might want to flip through this guide book as while it doesn't specifically apply to the multimeter you have, the symbols are fairly standard, as are the procedures.
