Old Plots

I agree, Rochem, and icewolf.

I think there was a post a little while back about getting some Broadway plots to look at, and, well, they really were useless. A batten full of VL5s is great. Except that gives you no information except where they hung it.

But the plots combined with the paperwork is invaluable, and it gives us younger folks a chance to see how its done professionally.

Decided to just put this in this same thread rather than starting a new one:

Just came in from Live Design.
Errand Into The Maze Paperwork Now Online

The Lighting Archive has added the paperwork (plot, hook-up chart, focus notes, cue sheet) for Jean Rosenthal’s lighting design for Martha Graham’s Errand Into the Maze from 1948. This is quite an astonishing collection of historical paperwork and a great resource for contemporary designers to have at their fingertips.

The goal of the Lighting Archive website is to develop a collection of actual plots, focus charts, cue sheets from real shows with an emphasis on historical productions and designers who have made important contributions to our field, according to LD Beverly Emmons, who has taken the leading role in getting the archives off the ground. We should all ask Beverly what we can do to help in this noble effort….

Next to be posted: Ken Billington’s paperwork for Sweeney Todd.

Appears to be very similar to the NYPL Lighting Database - even has the same people heading up both websites. STEVETERRY, care to enlighten us on why the decision was made to create a separate project rather than just building on the NYPL Database?
