Groups that hire stagehands (union, independent groups, theatres, etc.) will keep a list of people that are available as needed for when they need more people than they have members or employees. Often, but not always, these are people trying for membership or employment with the group. Some situations where overhire techs might be needed include load-ins, load-outs, and turnarounds.
