Sometimes referred to as the operating line. This is the rope that flyman moves to operate the rigging system, flying a batten in or out. It is attached to the top and bottom of an arbor in a single-purchase counterweight fly system. Previously 5/8" or 3/4" manila rope was used, but has been replaced almost exclusively in new and retrofit installations by synthetic ropes such as Multiline II.
