Recommend a sound system.

Our school has approved our Technical Theatre Dept. a certain amount of money. We are going for a new sound system, what do you recommend?

In order to reccomend anything, I (and probably anyone else on this site) would need a price limit. Also, what applications would this system be used for? Plays? Choral concerts?

Also, how big of a space will this system need to fill?

It is extremely hard (not to say impossible) to reccomend a system without more information.
Data about space, amount of people, use, etc would be awesome.
