Okay, for my initial setup for the new season I still haven't found the resources to hang speakers properly, so I mounted them (two Mackie SRM450s) high up on the back wall of the stage area on simple OnStage post-mount wall brackets. They're about 15 feet high, just above the rear curtain level, and about 20 feet apart.
Not ideal positioning, but it's a start and has the following benefits:
* it gets the speakers out of the way of the set
* the actors can hear the music directly so we don't need stage monitors
* we get direct, not reflecting, sound.
I also have two Mackie SRS1500 subs to fill in the low end since the speakers up high have pretty much lost all of their bass.
Let's hope for the best ... Man of La Mancha enters tech this Sunday!
