Microphones Sennheiser MKE2 History

After watching the new Bohemian Rhapsody movie I was curious about the setup for Live Aid and came across this old copy of Study Sound, circa December 1985, which had a good bit of info on the Hill sound systems used. However, it also included an article related to Starlight Express and it mentioned the use of Sennheiser MKE2 lav elements. This interested me, as I had assumed the MKE2's were not that old! The MKE2-GOLD is still one of my top preferred lavs due to its robustness and fidelity, and it got me to wondering if anyone had more info on the history of this venerable microphone?

I don’t have a good reference on the specifics of the MKE-2, I imagine posting to the more NYC-centric audio groups on the internet would get a response.

That being said, if you haven’t read it The MKH Story White Paper has a fantastic history of the Sennheiser MKH microphones, they published it when the MKH 8000 series came out and I found it a pretty good read.
