Just wondering how i would go about setting up an old zero 88 demux 48 unit i found. i understand that its basicaly a dimmer pack but was wondering if i need to buy some BETA packs so i can actualy plug lights into the thing? is that how it works? or is there a way to plug the 8 rack outputs to some form of light directly?

Is this.pdf the unit of which you speak? Basically, the big brother of this one?

It's NOT a dimmer pack--it's a protocol converter--a "translator" intended for use when a DMX512 control console needs to talk to analog (0-10VDC input) dimmers. It won't do anything useful without dimmers, and is unnecessary if using modern DMX dimmers (such as the Zero88 Betapack3). Older Beta pack dimmers may have been analog-only, not sure, those dimmers are not popular in North America.
