Wait a sec ... let’s hear from the communist! If you are doing only 4 shows plus say 10 rehearsals a year ... look around for another regional group with similar schedule. Think shared equipment purchase, or rent from them if they already have. Lots else one can share as well ... lighting, platforms, props, costumes. With a proper modest contribution to the maint. Reserve fund, and perhaps each group buying their own headmics (where accidents happen) you could have a beautiful thing going...

I was going to recommend renting, and this guy ^. For the number of times/year that this gear would be used, I can't justify purchasing. Rent, you'll get better gear and have a better experience for the money.

Edited to say that Ben posted while I was typing and I was referring to Rod - but Ben has a great point, too! Is there anyone around that you can share equipment with? Could engender great relationships between programs.
