Small outdoor show - sanity check

The ship may have had "Moving Light Hospital" in the lower decks, as the corrosive sea air does a real number on everything. One local nightclub with a country theme had live bull riding on weekends and a full time staff member whose job was to fix the moving lights that failed daily due to the dust and dirt. I'd be surprised if the ship was any different in terms of maintenance.
Well probably but, deck 12 on a modern cruise ship isn't like the deck of the Titanic. Most of the time you'd never even know you were on a boat.

Having worked on a couple of cruise ships I can say with confidence that they probably don't have a moving light hospital. Though that can situation can be different on a ship to ship basis. They try to keep spare parts around to fix things, but something is breaking all the time. When the engine is on the entire ship vibrates. Also, anything that isn't installed in a venue is difficult to reach by design and you can only access things when ships are in port and the majority of guests are off the ship. They try to get IP 65 rated fixtures for the open decks but they don't always get water proof cabling. Attached is two DMX ends that I replaced on the pool deck of a ship.

That'll buff right out...

The movers were on truss stands within easy reach around the balcony rail (Deck 13) one deck above the pool party/ dance area. The cables were running along the railing that overlooks that as well. They were ratchett strapped to the truss stand and the stands ratchett strapped to the railing. The Ltg people tapped into the ship's DMX-controlled lighting system to also control and use the lounge lighting, some artsy art sculpture seemingly growing out of one pool, and all the other local area lighting as well. (perimeter of the pool deck, under the 13th deck cantilevered from above which was a sun deck and a 1/3 mile running track)

But as I stated, they seemed none less for the wear. I have seen them outdoors in Las Vegas at Treasure Island to light their outdoor Pirate show at night, under huge plexiglass bubble domes.

My picture came from a sister ship of Independence of the Seas. Unless it is a very new ship, or that ship just came out of dry dock, you can find all kinds of things wrong with the lighting systems on ships. The lights in the bubble domes on the ship I was on didn't work at all.

The Liberty or the Freedom? Bubble domes I saw were in Vegas at a casino hotel's outdoor theater.
